I am married to my high school sweetheart and we have three wonderful kids together. We are a young family just trying to survive everyday hassles while still cherishing every beautiful minute we have together.
So we are going to pretend I just starting blogging and that I didn't abandon something that was documenting all the stuff we do as a family. Yup sounds like a great idea to me. I love reading everyone's blogs and for months I didn't even get to do that. But its a new year, new blog.
What we have been up to lately.
1.)My kids are growing up so fast, not really babies anymore.
2.) We went to Disney for Christmas!
3.) Klay lost his first tooth, and Kensley lost another! (Poor girl can barely eat)
4.) We got a new puppy.
5.) We hosted Thanksgiving at our house this year, and it was so nice to have everyone together.
6.) We are revamping our playroom, more of a family room now.
7.) We keep getting snow here in Central Arkansas!!!
Well, a lot has been going on, its hard archive it all. Some pictures to tell the stories.
We had a very busy Easter weekend. Lots of egg hunting, candy eating, and great worship!!
Friday was the class egg hunt. My sister got to come to Kensley's class, which a great treat for Kensley. Kennedy had her first egg dying experience. The egg lost the battle! Big Daddy in some grilling action. Our old grill bite the dust, so we had to get a new one. Cabe is in Egg Head heaven! Easter bunny goodies All the yummy desserts! I made the candy nests, and I have to say this was the first Paula recipe I have tried where I liked my original better. She called for butter crisco instead of butter for the rice krispies. Never try that, it was awful! The key lime pie was so good! My sister said it took forever, but the work paid off. And my Mom's lemon cake, this is one of my all time favorite desserts.
Klay and my nephew Carson swapping eggs. They were so funny they didn't realize the money ones were the good ones! I didn't get a group shot of our family in our Easter outfits. I had big plans, we all matched, but Klay and sidewalk chalk had other plans. Our cute church clothes didn't last long. And no Kensley didn't wear those flip flops with her dress. Luckily her cousin has big feet so she could borrow some play shoes. Kennedy LOVED hunting eggs! She liked it even more when she realized they were filled with chocolate.
We went to the Saturday night worship service at our church, it was so amazing I could of gone back the next day. It was a great Easter weekend and we are so blessed that "He is risen!"
This was Kelly's post title and for me, this is SO appropriate. I know my family and friends that still check every once in a while (Linz-sis) are wondering why I even blog.
I may not be a faithful blogger, maybe not even update once a month, but I have precious kids and love to share what they have been up to.
I took Klay out yesterday to get some pictures of him. He did awesome!!! He loved that all the attention was on him, and didn't have the other kids around to mess with him. Its hard being the only boy! And this little man is definitely a ladies man! It is scary, I can just picture him at sixteen smooth talking some girls. Yes I'm already praying big time for this one. Ha!
I know its really random that the first post I blog in three months is about the "Tooth Fairy", but the pictures were easily accessible and why not she is precious! Soon to come will be baby "Kwinny's" 1st Birthday pics(yes it did take place in November) but who's counting. Kensley actually lost her first tooth the night of Kennedy's party. Then lost her second the next night. It was busy around the Soffos house!
Look at my baby girl all grown up and losing her 1st tooth! Yes I bawled like a baby that night. So proud and checking out her new grill while going to bed. Night number two!
Funny thing happens when you are a parent, you can hear a really funny story from someone and think "ha" that's funny but never think it will relate to your life. Well as I've learned from being a parent, ANYTHING can happen! Last year at our church women event a great speaker Priscilla Shier(which I'm now doing her bible study this semester and LOVE it!) spoke about how her son lost a tooth and her husband the "Tooth Fairy" gave him a $20! She was like what!?! And he proceeded to tell her that when all the grandparents gave the child money for their birthday he hid it and then gave it has tooth fairy money. I cracked up at that and even shared it with several people thinking it was too cute. Well Kensley finally pulling her tooth was not on my agenda so of course why would I have cash on me, I always use debit. So I have to confess that our tooth fairy was Kenendy's birthday money she had gotten that day at her party. Yes I know horrible taking from a little one on her 1st birthday, but I did pay her back. She had with drawls two nights in a row! Haha!
Kensley thought it was the neatest thing waking up the next morning and seeing the tooth fairy had been there and left her $5.00. We decided on this, like all other things inflation has taken over and lets face it kids get more these days. We thought that was fair enough. Although she did let us pull the other tooth the next day in hopes the tooth fairy left a DS game :). We thought we had done good until Nana and Mimi come over and give the kid 20 bucks for losing a tooth. Really!?!
We didn't get to enjoy her toothless grin for long, her other ones had already come in behind those so it was a must that she lose them. Now everyday she asks me if I think they are straightening out because she doesn't want braces. Oh to be a 6 year old!
(Ok so really I wouldn't be doing that, who am I kidding, last time I went skiing I got a black eye) But instead doing this
And drinking one of these
I hate that we are missing out on our ski trip we have had planned for months, and also that our dear sweet friend Lindsey will be making the venture alone without us or her husband. She will be in my thoughts and prayers alot of the weekend and next week. It is a big deal to be going at it alone and I hate I am missing all the fun with her. But work does rule things around here and Cabe is overloaded right now. Which is such a very huge blessing!!! Not for one minute do we don't thank God for the blessings his business have had this year, we know that he is so very fortunate to have so much work, when others have none.
Their have been some big blessings work wise come Cabe's way just within the past couple of weeks, and we both think it is opening so many doors for us. Cabe has wanted to really expand his business and span out more with his commercial work, and it is like God is taking him all over now and building his name in the business. It is such a huge praise!!! We just can't say more, than thank you God and all the doors you have opened for our family. I want to give back so much, and with Christmas season that just adds to me really wanting to help out others. Not to mention that this movie was just awesome
Last weekend Cabe and I had a date night. We went and saw The Blind Side and ate at Loca Luna, one of our favorites! Both were excellent!
Oh yeah, I have to share an early Christmas present to me and hubby. I have begged for one, and Cabe didn't think it I needed one. (Truth is Mr. Style wanted one for himself was the reason he didn't want me to get it first) Well we broke down last week and order us both one in case we did get to go skiing. Got it in yesterday and I just adore it. It is every thing I hoped it would be! Well Happy Friday everyone!!! I know that was a bunch of stuff all thrown into one post, maybe it I didn't post every 3 months! I hope to post pictures of the kiddos birthdays this weekend, but not making any promises......Ha
So I am about a month behind on all my posts, but I am just now catching up with reality and sleep. Even though we are heading into the busy Christmas season, I am trying to just relax and enjoy my family.
Kennedy's 1st birthday is now over with and birthdays are behind me until next fall! Yay!! It makes me really sad to know that they are another year older and that their birthdays have past. But at the same time, I am so relieved to not be preparing for parties anymore. I can now walk into Hobby Lobby without feeling like I want to cry!
So this was Kensley's first birthday party where it was strictly friends and no family. She absolutely loved it!! I was really nervous about it because usually I do all the planning and take care of ever last detail for the party, and this time the party place just told us to show up. It turned out being really cute, and it was just what she wanted!
We did a "Popstar" themed party, since Kensley's fav right now is Miss Montana! We had her party at a new boutique in town that also does glitter spa parties. We choose the runway model package where all the girls got the get manicures, makeup, and dress and but on a fashion show. Can I just say that at 5 and 6 these little girls already know how to work it!! SCARY!! Every one of them knew just what they wanted their makeup and nails to look like and each couldn't wait to put on the big fancy dresses. I have a feeling Cabe and I aren't gonna be prepared for the teen years with our girls. Ha! This is all the girls that were at Kensley's party, and the sweet lady in the middle is Kensley's Kindergarten teacher!! Is that not the sweetest thing ever that she would come on a Saturday to a students party. Such a blessing to us that she is her teacher! Cutest cake ever!! Kensley loved it!! I can not believe my sister can make things like this, and it tasted amazing too! After the party, we had a little birthday celebration out at our house and then went trick or treating. Kensley was a ladybug(but when I got her costume I realized it was really a lovebug), Klayton was Clifford the Big Red dog (I have to say that was the cutest big red dog I have ever seen!), Kennedy was a bunny rabbit, and Carson was a Transformer.
The kids had such a good time, especially Klay. He held his bag open the entire time, it was too funny!! This is really so so sad that my first little baby is now SIX years old!! She is such a sweet, loving, smart, funny, girly girl! We couldn't be more proud of her and she couldn't have her daddy more wrapped around her bright hot pink nail polished fingers!
Happy Birthday sweet baby girl!!! You have stole all of our hearts through your first year, and found your place in family just nicely!! You complete our family, and will always be the baby. I think you know that really well too, because you can make your brother and sister do anything you want them too.
You have grown so much this first year and it has gone by way too fast. It seems like yesterday we were holding you and you looked like this
Now you look like this
May God bless you in your road of life, and may you always know that you have a family that loves you more than words can express!!
I was so irritated today when my laundry got interrupted by the repairman. I have had my dryer like this for over a month now! Besides it looking like this, it worked just fine. The knob that you turn to change the cycle has been wearing over the past few months, but not to where you couldn't use it. Cabe had asked for months that I call and schedule it to get fixed before it was out of warranty. So finally I crossed that call of my to-do-list. But the dryer was long out of warranty so I agreed to pay for the service call to fix the striped knob. Well the repairman came out in September and said he would have to order a whole new knob. Today is when the knob finally came in and he came to put my dryer back together. After him working on it for hours I started getting a little concerned about how much this so called quick fix service call was going to cost me. About that time he comes to get me to show me the dryer. His words "Well I've got some bad news!" Never a good thing from someone working on you stuff. He tells me that he was wrong and that wasn't the part he needed, so it isn't fixed, but now the knob won't turn at all and I can only do laundry on what the knob was last turned too. Do you want to know what the knob was set on?!? HIGH!! I mean great!! Unless I want my already too tight clothes tighter, I won't be drying anything for another month!! Cabe called him to check and see how long this part would take to get in, and what to you guess, he never called us back.
I was so very irritated since this weekend is Kensley's birthday and we will be having people out. I was down to two loads left before every single item of laundry was folded and put away. No my never ending pile can stack up again. I was still so bummed about it that when I went to pick up Kensley from school I stopped my the store to buy a 2 liter of Dr. Pepper. (A thing I never do anymore, because one I'm trying to lose weight, two I don't drink anything with caffeine, and three because I'll end up with more kidney stones) But I needed a pick me up so I treated my self!! As soon as I got home I fixed a huge glass of ice and opened my DP. Well then what happens...... it has rolled in the car so it spews all over the kitchen. And of course Klay is right there to say, Mommy you are going to clean that up! Haha! Where do you think he has heard that? But once the floors were mopped I did sit down and enjoy my Dr. Pepper and my new Paula Deen magazine. I was all refreshed and ready to get back to work after my short lived break.
We went to the pumpkin patch a few weekends ago. I think we choose the coldest day in October, we enjoyed it, but didn't ride the hayride this year because we were all ready to get home and get in front of the fire.
Kwinny and Nana I don't think my mom is ever looking in any picture. This picture cracked me up because all three kids nostrils were flared it was so cold out. Kensley loves the pumpkin patch because we have always made such a big deal out of fall and the tradition of going to the pumpkin patch. Not sure Kennedy understood the place. She was so amazed by the turkeys they had there. My dad got her to start gobbling and it was the cutest thing! Klay could of cared less about pictures this day. I wanted my usual family pictures and he had other plans. The boy loved it too because it had rained so much and everything was a muddy mess. Me not so much! Kensley, Carson, and Klayton Carson is five months younger than Klay, and his is nearly as big as Kensley. I did get a few pictures with them all looking. This was one of my favorites!
I have the best intentions at keeping up with my blog, but lets face it I have three kids 5 and under! I'm lucky if I get in bed at 11:30 on a good night, not to mention all last week Kensley was home with swine flu! Huh, that is such a nasty name!!! We have been such germaphobs this fall, with all the talk about H1N1 and every other bug that is going around. But yep, we all got sick with something. I had not been myself for about two weeks, really fatigued and stomach bugs, then Cabe got it, and then Kensley. Klayton has had a few ear infections, but nothing major for him. Surprisingly he and Kennedy have been the healthiest of all.
I went to the doctor last week because I was just sick of the constant sinus stuff and stomach bug, aches..... they gave me some antibiotics and called it sinus issues. Kensley however missed school Monday because when she woke up her stomach was hurting her like Cabe and I and she was having aches. To be on the safe side I didn't send her to school, but Tuesday I thought she was well enough to go. Nope, the nurse called right before I was going to the doctor, and said she was asleep in her office. They said she didn't have a fever, but just didn't feel good. So we picked her up from school, and within 15 minutes she was burning up with fever. The next day we took her to the doctor and after a negative strep test they tested her for H1N1, and she was positive! Nightmare for me!!! She was really achy and ran a really high fever (104) for about two days, then it went away. She stayed home all week and I have to admit I truly loved it. I was thinking I might never send her back. I enjoyed not having to rush at night to have dinner, baths, and bedtime by 8. We hung out like the old days and weren't so rushed. I got to snuggle her every night on the couch and watch movies. It was a gift in disguise! I knew today would be really hard for me to send her back to school. She on the other hand was so thrilled to see her friends and teacher. She asked all last week if I was sure she couldn't go to school. It broke my heart knowing she was growing up and wishing to be with friends over family. Ok, maybe not to the extreme, but she is really changing lately. She seems so much more mature now that she is in school. I remember other mommy friends would tell me that their children grew up once they started school. It was another one of those type things you don't understand until you experience it.
I was reading Kelly's blog tonight, and realized I'm not the only mommy who has those moments of emotion thinking something is changing and this might be your last. I never knew how much I cherished those days with none school aged babies at home. I'm probably also a little emotional because that said baby turns SIX this week!! I can't believe my little pumpkin has been her six years, it really does go by way too fast.
Sorry there are no pictures today, I'm posting from my very ancient laptop that is about to bite the dust and I don't put pictures on here anymore in fear I may lose them. I'm update tomorrow about all our fall activities we have done lately.
Two weekends ago we went to Jet's field trials because they were close to our town. He had been gone at training for nearly three months and we were all really missing him. The field trials can be a little tiring because you are out in the middle of no where pretty much all day, but they are still alot of fun. He was running for a finished pass, which he got on both Saturday and Sunday. I didn't get that many good pictures of him, but I thought this one of him leaping was really neat. I captured it right when he was realized to go get the ducks. The other is one of my favorite pictures Jet, even though it was taken by Cabe's phone, it is still one of my favorites.
He is now home with us as of Sunday. Cabe drove to Memphis after lunch Sunday with Kensley and Klay while Kennedy and I did 10 loads of laundry! I was so relieved to get it all done, I was having a minor break down seeing it all piled up. Reason for it being all piled up was nothing from the unusual like having to wash sheets that got pee peed on, and tons of baby stuff. But I was sick in bed three days last week and it put me so far behind. Cabe had to take over the role of Mr. Mom and it was very funny. The first night of him preparing dinner I sat down and noticed he had sweat rolling down his face. I asked him what was wrong and he said "That was exhausting getting everything done and dinner on the table in time!" I wanted to bust out laughing but the poor guy had gone to all the trouble of making us dinner so I remained polite. Hopefully that is the only cold I get for the season, it is no fun being sick, especially since mommies don't get sick days. All the kids have had their flu shots and now this week I have to go get mine. Hubby opted not to get one for his horrible fear of needles. I had to show this adorable picture of my friend Lindsey's dog Willow. She is just the cutest little thing and we loving having her come play at the house. She doesn't know what to think of the kids because they usually take off chasing her and Kennedy won't leave her alone. (Kennedy is in love with all animal, but mostly dogs!! She will squeal "dog dog" whenever we are around one.) Willow was showing out one night when we got home from going to the movies so I decided to get some pictures of her. She does this little head tilt when you will say something to her. It cracks me up! Kennedy was sporting one of her ponytails the other day and she looked so cute, I just wanted to share the picture. Her hair has gotten so long in the front that when we don't pull it back or put a bow on it hangs in her eyes. This little one is almost one! I was at the doctor's office yesterday getting Kensley her flu shot and their was a new mom with her daughter in for their newborn check up. I just stopped and stared, I thought how I am through with all of those days and my season in life is now changing to school meetings and a house with just toddlers. Kensley herself was really intrigued by the baby and started talking about Kennedy when she was that little and how she missed her. It is just one of those times in life that go by so fast and you wish you could remember every part of it. I would post a picture of my new hair cut and color except that it is HORRIBLE!!! I am having a really hard time letting it wear on me. I wanted all of my highlights taken out and my natural brown back with just a few auburn low lights. Well I got really really dark brown hair with ALOT of red highlights. I was just sick once I got to the car and realized how dark my hair really was. I called my friend pretty much in tears and told her she must come look at it. She excepted to be shocked but she said she really liked it and it was trendy. The only problem is I don't think I'm a trendy girl what so ever. I'm gonna wear it for a few days and see if it grows on me. My hair dresser said she did it darker because it will fade, but I'm not real sure it is going to fade into the brown I was wanting. Until then I may just go out with a hat on all the time.
Today we did a little shopping downtown and then got Klayton's hair cut. I was a little sad (okay maybe a lot) to see his beautiful curls go. This little man has had his curls now since around March. When he was littler his hair in the back would curl up and he just looked like an angel. So back in the spring I decided it was too cute and we were going to let his hair grow.
It grew and it grew, but the boy never sat still so after I would fix his hair each morning he would go out and turn what was precious into this.............
Since his hair was never kept up and he was starting to look unkept, which he isn't, I decided it must be cut.
This was the first time I've ever taken him to my hairdresser Ashley. She did a really good job and he looks so handsome again. I was amazed at all the hair on the floor I should have taken a picture of it but my little camera is messed up so I didn't get any pictures.
Photos are not the best quality because they were taken with my phone, but still cute.
Sorry it has been umm......... like 3 months since I have posted an actual worth something post. I have been getting calls about it too! Haha!! Love you Mamaw! I have not abandoned it, and the idea you had about coming down to watch the kids so I can catch up doesn't sound so bad.
My dad has moved to Dallas also and has been asking for pictures of the kids so it is a must I get back in the swing of updating the blog.
I have so many cute pics of our summer to post and now that it is fall, we are in our busy season. (Three kids with birthdays in the next two months! Super busy!)
These are just a few pics from summer to show what all we have been up too. Kensley had her 4th dance recital, and she was an adorable mouse! She graduated preschool, and tears were shed thinking about her graduating high school before I know it. Tee ball, which was so cute, but we realized it was more for daddy then her. Can you see her enthusiasm? Haha! We went to Disney World and had so much fun!! Klay asks everyday when we are going back. Cabe and I celebrated our 6th anniversary in St. Louis. We saw a Cardinals game, I had another kidney stone, we toured Anaheuaser-Busch, went in the Arch, and ate at the greatness that is The Cheesecake Factory. Kennedy got even cuter!! Love, love, love this picture!! My car was towed from the airport. Valet had such a good time driving it while I was in Disney World. . We had a reunion with the Soffos side of the family Kennedy was moved to her crib. Pulled up and started crawling all in the same day. It was a sad sad moment! Also a lonely night without my little Kwinny next to me. We floated the Buffalo with some great friends, who were such good sports when their canoe was folded in half. Klayton went to his first Cardinals game with Cabe, while me and the girls had a weekend together. The kids enjoyed summer to its fullest, and I think Kensley had a really good last summer with us before she began school. It was very full, but that was how I wanted it.
I'm now off to the DMV to renew tags and take Klay for his horseback riding lessons. Have a great Tuesday everyone!!
